Solar

Solar A/S is Northern Europe’s leading technical wholesaler within electrics, ventilation, heating and plumbing. With over 130 000 items is in their product range, Solar minimizes their clients’ need for keeping warehouses of their own. A central part of the company’s business is the fast deliveries made both daytime and nighttime.

Challenge

Solar has over 160 suppliers throughout Europe and therefore a steady flow of incoming shipments. With time efficiency at the core of the company, Solar needs to have control over the status of the incoming shipments as well as a knowledge regarding when the shipments will be delivered.

Solution

Solar started using the inbound-solution in Itella Smartship (a TM-system delivered by Unifaun). The >160 suppliers were connected to the service, templates were set up and workflows structured. Solar sends an order to their suppliers and by following an attached url-link, the supplier can log into their company-unique site and book the shipments to Solar. Itella gets all bookings and can after processing them update Smartship with statuses and delivery date.

Result

Solar has gained full control over their incoming shipments and can follow their latest status in one single interface. Through knowledge regarding delivery dates Solar can manage their supply chain in a more efficient way and thus have a better flow of goods through their warehouse. A year after the implementation of Itella Smartship and the inbound solution, the company has gained significant improvements and benefits regarding efficiency as well as monetary results.
